We love this, it's pure blogfodder. Quite brilliant, yet stupidly simple. Piece of toast, you might say.
— Alistair Hall, We Made This

At Atto HQ, we love a good one-day project to keep us on our toes. Your Name on Toast was a “Friday Afternoon Project” that gave us the chance tell a (silly, but) remarkable story online, and to help people less fortunate than us.

The idea is quite simple:

  • You send us a link to their website, a word that represents you, and some money.
  • We toast a piece of bread and write your word on it (with a sharpie).
  • We scan the toast and upload it to the site. Your toast serves as a link to your site.
  • The more money you donate, the higher up the grid your toast appears.

Our job with Toast was to create a story worth telling and watch it spread online. With the top toast sitting at over $400, the site has raised more than $11500 so far, all of which goes directly to Oxfam, the charity voted for by the site’s users.

“Your Name On Toast is a silly idea. But a great silly idea. And Silly ideas get talked about a lot. The people behind the scheme are fab and give all the money to charity. How groovy? And all for a good cause. Please can we see a trendhunter one up there soon…” – Trendhunter

“Toast can make the world better.” – Notcot

“This is the truest form of a solid viral idea with a good cause behind it.” – marketing.fm
